We are Trinity United Methodist Church
Located at on the west side of Waverly, just blocks from Wartburg college, W-SR high school and right next door to the public library, Waverly Manor retirement home and West Cedar Elementary school; Trinity United Methodist Church is a church that is vibrant and actively participating in the rhythm and flow of the Waverly community!
We are the home of MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers) several Boy Scout and Cub Scout packs, a 4-H Club, Friendship Quilters, the Lyme Disease Support group and any number of other organizations in the community.
Meaningful worship, hands on missions, fellowship and study – these are some of the things that Trinity does week in and week out as a community of faith.
We do all of these because we believe that the church belongs to our Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that the church is, as the Apostle Paul says, the Body of Christ. In other words, the church is the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
We believe that as followers of Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to witness to our faith with our words as well as our actions.
We are unashamedly a United Methodist Church, a denomination that holds onto the historic doctrines of faith. Founded by John Wesley and brought to America just prior to the Revolutionary War, the Methodist church spread across the land by brave men and women as they moved westward. The first worship service in the Waverly settlement was led by a Methodist Circuit rider way back in 1853.
United Methodists are known for our emphasis on a personal faith lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed preaching, worship that was lively and small groups where people could grow in love of God and neighbor.
We United Methodists have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion. our emphasis on a personal faith lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed preaching, worship that was lively and small groups where people could grow in love of God and neighbor.
